How to Use the Tools in Canvas

After opening Canvas, a grid will appear that looks like this:

The Canvas will appear with the following tools:

• Cursor

  

  • Select the mouse tool
  • Click and drag anywhere on the grid to pan
  • Move plants across the Canvas
  • Change environment shape and size

• Environment Tool

  

  • Select the environment tool

• Add new environment

  

  • Create a new environment
  • Drag the environment around the Canvas by clicking Drag
  • Change environment size and shape by clicking and dragging the corners

<aside> How to Edit an Environment in Canvas

To edit an environment, click View and the following will appear:

• Click Associated plants to add a plant to an environment

• Upload image files (either directly or through the Gallery) associated with the experiment under Images

• Write a description of the environment in the text box provided

• Add timestamps to the Time series by clicking + New Timestamp and include date of data collection, time over which data was collected, and timestamp name

• If you add a TO (Trait Ontology) for the timestamp, information will be populated automatically. For more information, please refer to this link </aside>

• Add new image

  

  • Add images to the Canvas
  • Upload images using a local device, or scan a QR code to upload from a different device
  • View images by clicking Open Files or Gallery:

  

• Plant Tool

  

  • Add a plant to the environment
  • Move a plant across the canvas
  • Click on a plant to view it and edit its properties

<aside> How to Edit a Plant in Canvas

After clicking on a plant, the following options will appear:

• Add timestamps (with date, name, and time) by clicking Change Layout
• To add a time series variable, click Add time series variable and then click Change Layout to modify date, name, and time
• Add plant ontologies by clicking Add metadata variable and include variable name, unit (quantity), and input type (text, number, or date)
• Delete the plant

• Change plant color

Click Back to return to the Canvas
